August 12, 1942	31st Fighter Group at West Hampnett is declared fully operational and ready for combat operations under Royal Air Force control unitl it gains enough experience to be to fight as a group. This is the first U.S. fighter unit in U.K. to reach this operational status.
August 12, 1942	B-17's bomb shipping at Rabaul, scoring damaging hits on three vessels.
August 12, 1942	One B-24 flies photo reconaissance over Amlia and Atka.
